Waste Management Services

The Waste Management Department of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly provides comprehensive waste management and sanitation services including solid and liquid waste collection, public cleansing, and advisory services. These are carried out directly by the Assembly or through accredited private providers under contract or franchise arrangements.

Overview

The Waste Management Department is responsible for waste collection, disposal, and overall sanitation within the municipality. It ensures that public spaces are clean and provides both direct and outsourced services through accredited contractors and franchise agreements.

Statutory Services

The department provides statutory services such as the collection of refuse from public places including markets, lorry stations, and open public areas. These activities help maintain a clean and healthy environment for residents and businesses.

Service Categories

Solid Waste Collection Services

Mandatory service for all premises within the municipality.

  • All property owners and occupiers must subscribe to solid waste collection services.
  • Registration is done with AMMA-accredited waste service providers.
  • Subscribing to unaccredited waste service providers is prohibited.

Special Waste Collection Services

Specialized evacuation of bulk, construction, and hazardous waste on demand.

  • Evacuation of bulk waste from private properties.
  • Removal of construction waste and debris.
  • Post-construction site cleaning and evacuation.
  • Collection of e-waste and toxic waste.

Liquid Waste Management Services

Management of septic systems and household toilet facilities.

  • Desludging and desilting of septic tanks.
  • Construction of household toilets.
  • Implementation of household toilet projects under AMMA programs.
  • Connection of properties to the municipal sewerage network.
  • Design and construction of public toilet facilities.

Cleansing Services

Cleaning of public and private spaces to maintain environmental sanitation.

  • Cleaning of streets, pavements, and kerbs.
  • Sanitation of public open spaces and parks.
  • Cleaning of markets and lorry parks.
  • Desilting and cleaning of drains.

Event Waste Management

Provision of waste management services for events and large gatherings.

  • Sweeping and cleaning of event venues before and after activities.
  • Evacuation of all generated waste during and after events.
  • Support for festivals, conventions, and exhibitions.

Advisory Services

Technical and planning support for institutions and developers.

  • Preparation of waste management plans for real estate, commercial, and industrial entities.
  • Preparation of RFPs for procurement of waste management services.
  • Evaluation of proposals and service contracts.

Important

All fees and charges for waste management and sanitation services are determined annually in the Assembly’s Fee-Fixing Resolution. Residents and businesses must engage only accredited service providers for waste collection and disposal.
